The Graduate College is proud to be a sponsor of the annual Thomas L. Hill Iowa State Conference on Race and Ethnicity (ISCORE). This year’s conference will celebrate ISCORE’s 20th anniversary and will take place Friday, March 6 in the Memorial Union. Attending is free for all Iowa State students, faculty, and staff.

ISCORE is Iowa State’s comprehensive forum on issues of race and ethnicity that provides an ongoing platform of sharing and applying new knowledge through presentations and workshops. The conference supports Iowa State’s mission to “create, share, and apply knowledge… and make Iowa and the world a better place.”

Faculty, staff, and students will present concurrent sessions on topics such as “Ouch, That Stereotype Hurts,” “Identifying and Confronting White Nationalism in the Classroom and Beyond,” and “African American Women in Iowa and the Vote for All.” A morning and lunch keynote will also be included. ISCORE’s closing session

will focus on how students, faculty, and staff can use what they learned throughout the day to help make classrooms, research labs, and the Iowa State community a more supportive and inclusive environment.

ISCORE is an opportunity for graduate students and postdoctoral scholars to learn, share, ask questions, and discuss race and ethnicity comfortably. The Graduate College encourages every graduate student and postdoctoral scholar to participate and engage in as much of ISCORE as they are able.

“Expect to learn, and to be impressed, empowered, and challenged by ISCORE,” said William Graves, Dean of the Graduate College. “I hope to see a large contingent of graduate students and postdoctoral scholars on March 6.”

Registration for ISCORE is now closed, but members of the Iowa State community may still attend individual sessions and keynote addresses after checking in on March 6.
